Rob Sampson, Director of Life Enrichment from The Avalon of New Albany was honored with the prestigious Argentum Hero Award honor at the 2024 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. Honorees represent the highest levels of excellence, caring, and dedication in senior living. Rob was just one of five recipients to receive this incredible honor. The Avalon of New Albany is managed by Life Care Services, An LCS Company. 

Rob started his career as a nursing assistant in a skilled nursing home 33 years ago. When he moved into an activities position, he discovered the true passion for the work that he does.  Since then, he has been compassionately working with the senior and special needs population. Rob's efforts to improve the community and inspire others, especially during the challenging times of COVID, make him a true hero in the senior living industry.

His nomination is full of stories that demonstrate his efforts to make a difference in the lives of the residents he serves, including:

• Rob connected with a resident through their matching red Converse Chuck Taylor shoes. In her red “Chucks”, the resident felt a part of “the gang” and represented to her a firm place of belonging, and that she was loved and understood.
• During the height of the pandemic, residents and their families stayed connected because of Rob. When families were unable to visit due to COVID restrictions, he set up video meetings for residents to see their families and was a key orchestrator for outside visits as they were allowed. He even took on the role of community barber for months due to the beautician not being able to come in.
